Now into its sixth year, Food Revolution Day is a worldwide campaign championed by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver to focus on food education and healthy eating habits. Supporting this passion to provide healthier and happier world for children through nutritious food, White Lodge celebrated Food Revolution Day this month across its seven centres.
At our Bukit Timah centre the Playgroup and Pre-Nursery children made Rainbow Dip with Crackers, while the Nursery children indulged themselves preparing and enjoying a Fiesta Food Wrap. Dressed in chef’s hats and tiny aprons, the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten children sliced their day away, making Vegetable Medley Chips from scratch!
To extend the learning to the real world, and help the children understand the importance of proper nutrition, our Kindergarten kids from across the seven centres made a trip to The New Luncher at Quayside Isle Sentosa. The lunchbox subscription service offers home cooked, healthy meals for children while they are at school. White Lodge partners with The New Luncher to provide meals to our children.
At their headquarters, the children made a nutritious chia seed fruit pudding by mixing milk and brown sugar, and adding chia seeds and their favourite fruits. After enjoying their very own puddings, they played a guessing game with Chef Catherine to name as many fruits and vegetables that she described, followed by an activity to identify healthy and unhealthy food
For the first time in history, the world has more people that are overweight than underweight. A recent Health Promotion Board study showed that 10% of five-year olds are overweight and 70% of children who were overweight at age seven stayed overweight as adults. Obesity in Singapore is projected to hit 15% by 2024 if nothing is done.
Food Revolution Day is an opportunity for everyone around the world to do something. Here at White Lodge, we believe the importance of cultivating good food habits from a young age that will follow children as they grow older.
