On the first Friday of October, the world celebrates World Smile Day, initiated in 1999 by Harvey Ball, the creator of world-famous image, the smiley face. This smiley face knows no politics, no geography and no religion, so everyone should devote at least one day each year to smiles and kind acts around the world.
Smile, the powerful yet simple expression, held between the tender lips of all of us, brings in strength and courage to the people around us. Our children know everything about smiles. Something they carry on their faces which easily remind us about the importance of simple things in life.
Children have the magical power to discover and explore the beyond. Embracing these special moments of life, all seven White Lodge Kindergartens celebrated the World Smile Day in conjunction with the Children’s Day on Friday 5th October 2018.
The day started with a big beautiful smile on the faces of the children and their joy to specially dress up with their favourite outfits. The school was soon filled with the sound of energetic greetings from the children; eager footsteps to the classes, meeting their friends; and their chats and laughter. These were just the prelude to the exciting day.
At White Lodge West Coast, their in-house clown and magician, Bobo and Momo, started the day with their antics and tricks. Extending the fun, children went around the school experiencing and appreciating activities the teachers had prepared for them.
Over at White Lodge Bukit Timah, the teachers put on a show based on Julia Donaldson’s ‘The Spiffiest Giant in Town’. Many children knew the story and participated in the skit with much excitement.
Last but not least, while we are celebrating the joy of childhood with our precious children, let’s not forget that the main purpose of Children’s Day is to promote mutual exchange and understanding among children and promote welfare of the world’s children.
Happy World Smile Day and Children’s Day!
