We have come to the end of another term and what a busy and successful one it has been. Thank you for all the support you have given us during this time, whether that has been attending and supporting our events, liaising with teachers or simply encouraging your child with school activities.
Events and Celebrations
The events and celebrations are always a highlight. We have enjoyed the wonderful Easter, Earth Day, Sports Day, Art Exhibition and Big Sing, Food Revolution Day and Hari Raya. We held our Sports Day quite differently this year and the beach was the perfect setting for some competitive beach games and a fun race with the entire school community! The level of competition was very high, and we are proud of everyone for participating and being a winner on that day!
We have enjoyed a spectacular run of the annual Big Sing, through musical performances including the Ukulele rendition of songs from Mama Goose for our Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten children. The Big Sing which was a huge success along with the art exhibition made it a day to remember for all who attended. It was a fantastic experience for all involved in the spectacular showcase of our students’ work!
Our new partnership with Invictus is now established, and we look forward to providing a supportive and seamless environment for primary school education after WhiteLodge. We will be offering an excellent Pre-Primary Prep Programme from August for all students considering a move to Invictus. The programme will help prepare all children aged 4 to 6 years for a guaranteed placement if they meet the terms and conditions of Invictus. Based on the class ratio of 1:25 Invictus may not be able to support students with additional needs as we do at WhiteLodge. However, with proper preparation and with adequate time at WhiteLodge we can work together towards a successful move. Do keep us informed of your interest for a placement in August 2020 and 2021 to help us with our planning. Please send your expression of interest to the respective school Principal.
Later this week, we will be celebrating our Kindergarten students’ success during our special graduation ceremony where a certificate will be awarded to students who are moving on to the primary schools in August. Our best wishes and heartiest congratulations to all!
Our Free Activity clubs continue to be very popular this term with the launch of the Hindi Club and Fitness Club in collaboration with Tinytots. We welcome ideas and suggestions for what may be of interest to your child/children for the coming terms.
There have been many individual and team successes to celebrate – our students are excelling across so many areas and we are always delighted to hear of their achievements in and out of school. We encourage you to let us know when your child achieves success so that we can join in congratulating them on their achievements soon.
Mandarin (As a second or foreign Language)
It is no secret that being bilingual is extremely helpful. Although children may not have much use for learning a second language yet, it is always better to start them young. This is when the brain is more open to picking up new things.
As we plan, please keep us informed if your child will be taking Mandarin as a second language or foreign language. Below are the differences between the two to help you with your decision.
Second language: This will be mostly applicable to students who will continue to take Mandarin at primary school. More focus on reading and writing will be implemented and students will be given time to practice on writing and working on the assessment books. Extra mandarin classes are available from 8-9am and 2.15-3.15pm daily at all schools for students moving on to schools which offer mandarin as a second language.
Foreign language: Children will be focusing on conversational Mandarin. They will be introduced to the new language through fun activities, games and catchy songs. Listening stations are introduced for children aged 4.5years old onwards (Pre-K and K). This is ideal for all moving on to international schools where mandarin is taught twice or thrice a week only.
Childcare Services (White Lodge Upper Bukit Timah, Upper East Coast and River Valley)
We have successfully converted both the schools to Child Care. We are proud to be able to continue to provide the same structure, calendar, events and White Lodge curriculum but have extended school day option till 7 pm for working parents who need childcare provisions.
Parents will have an option to stay on the same programme at the same costs, calendar or use the new service which will include all meals as well. We have made the change to help all working parents with a child who is a Singapore citizen to access the childcare subsidies, as mandated by the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA).
The new term starts on Wednesday 3rd July 2019 for all students.
